Santa Barbara Maritime Museum

Santa Barbara Maritime MuseumLocated at the Santa Barbara Waterfront Center, in the heart of a working harbor, the Maritime Museum is surrounded by colorful ocean crafts, busy fishermen and shopkeepers, and vast sea-life. Visitors enjoy a perfect combination of high technology and warm friendliness. Rare artifacts and priceless memorabilia tell a colorful story of Chumash settlements on the Channel Islands, impact of Spanish ships arriving at Presidio Santa Barbara, ensuing 19th century hide trade at Refugio and shore whaling at Goleta Beach. The story reaches into the 20th century to explore the hapless wreck of seven Navy destroyers on the rocks at Honda, and the revolution in diving wrought with discovery of oil beneath the ocean floor as demonstrated by a scale model of a channel oil rig.
