Do Your Part on Earth Day —
Ride Free on MTD!
Other ways to be Car Free? |
Let Earth Day be the beginning
Ride anywhere on an MTD bus or shuttle for FREE on Sunday April 22, 2007! Cars are a major source of smog pollution and greenhouses gases contributing to global climate change. Take a vacation from your car and do your part for the planet on Earth Day!
This first-ever cooperative initiative is supported by the Community Environmental Council, UCSB Bren School, Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District, the Santa Barbara Car Free project, Santa Barbara Metropolitan Transit District (MTD), SBCAG/Traffic Solutions, and the City of Santa Barbara.
| Buses from all
over town stop at the MTD Transit Center, just a few blocks
from Earth Day (see map on right); some bus lines stop just
outside the County Courthouse Sunken Gardens. For routes, schedules, and to find the bus stop closest to you, visit www.sbmtd.gov, or call MTD-3702 (answered by MTD staff weekdays 6am-7pm, Saturdays 8am-6pm or Sundays 9am-6pm). The South Coast Earth Day Festival is presented by the Community Environmental Council (CEC) and the UCSB Bren School of Environmental Science & Management. See the above link and www.bren.ucsb.edu for more on all the events planned for the months before and the Festival Day! |

Other ways to come to Earth Day Car Free:
Check out www.trafficsolutions.info for online bike maps, and a full menu of car free options!
- Walk: Earth Day’s downtown location makes it easy to get to without a car. The County Courthouse is only a 30 or 40 minute walk from the Mesa, Upper State Street, or Milpas Street, and only an 8-block stroll from lower downtown and the harbor. So lace up your walking shoes and get some exercise while you make this a car-free day!
- Bike: To plan your route, check out the online bike maps at www.trafficsolutions.info. Try linking up with the oceanfront bicycle path along Cabrillo Boulevard, or the bike lanes on Bath, Castillo and State Streets. Check out the Santa Barbara Bicycle Coalition website for more info on biking.
