Earth Day 2016 was a success! The event attracted more than 23,000 people and approximately 27% of them came car-free! Santa Barbara Car Free and the Air Pollution Control District booths were the first stop for more than 700 people who registered to receive prizes donated by Car Free partners. Prizes included Amtrak Pacific Surfliner tickets, bike rental passes, MTD bus passes, and more. Overall, 48% of the Car Free participants came by walking, 39% rode a bicycle, and 10% took the bus. Additional modes of transportation included skateboards, scooters, and even Segways. Kids also lined up to answer trivia questions about air quality and clean transportation from our Wheel of Change.
